Black Cluster Font

First things first: I am really not a Star Trek fan. I did come up with this name, which I thought had a good ring to it. When I checked whether the name was already taken, I found out that Black Cluster is a term from Star Trek. Now you want to know what a Black Cluster is, so just check out poster 2 and read all about it. For me, Black Cluster is a handmade ink font, with a lot of jumping glyphs, a lot of diacritics and a handful of ligatures. It may be rough, but you will be pleasantly surprised by what it can do to a design!

Rotor Font Family

Rotor Font Family
Rotor is a speedy font. In 1929 K. Sommer designed a typeface for Linotype called “Vulcan”. Some years later they republished the typeface and called it Dynamo.

The early Vulcan design inspired me to do this new, faster typeface in two different “speeds”, meaning I gave the design two opposing slants on the slab-serifs. In order to make it more useful I drew two sets of each “speed”, one with the white speedtraces and one without. And of course I did give it an allover new look, but still kept it a very art deco kind of typeface.

Regula is a Baroque alphabet taken over from a historical model including the latter’s inaccuracies and uneven letter edges. It reminds one of the character of letterpress, but if we were to be consistent, the letters which repeat themselves should also differ from each other, which is not possible in the case of digital setting. It is named after the secular monastic order Regula Pragensis, in honour of the inspiration which emanates from every moment spent in the presence of the members of this order with a glass of some good beverage.

Agreeable distraction experienced when working with Regula will please every tired computer graphic artist. The type face looks best in text, in sizes from 11 to 20 points – the model used for digitalization was in the size of today’s about 17 points. Regula has a rather narrow range of application. It does not take kindly to enlargement to poster sizes and for a long text in a small size it is preferable to use Regent. Nevertheless, it will certainly find its own niche in graphic studios, advertisements and illustrated magazines.

A very glitzy Blitz! Blitz-Condensed is an addition to my normal Blitz family. Both are topheavy fonts and are meant to be used together. The font gets a special shine because of this effect. And it stays readable despite its special design.
